Ex Libris: Klimt’s Kiss

Sello Ex Libris kiss by Klimt.

The kiss (original in German): The Kiss) is a work by the Austrian painter Gustav Klimt and probably his best-known work. It is an oil painting with gold and tin foil on a canvas measuring 180 x 180 centimeters, executed between 1907-08.

This work, which follows the canons of Symbolism, is a canvas with decorations and mosaics on a golden background. It is exhibited in the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere in Vienna. Usually, Klimt’s works created scandals and were criticized as «pornography» and for being «excessively perverted.» The works made Klimt a «enfant terrible» for his anti-authoritarian and anti-populist views on art. He wrote: «If you cannot please everyone with your works and your art, please please a few.». On the contrary, The Kiss was received with enthusiasm, and immediately found a buyer.

Ex libris It is a Latin phrase that literally means "from among the books of," that is, a book originating from among the books in a public or private library. The Ex Libris seal of Klimt is a property mark that is usually placed on the back of the cover or the lid of a book. It contains the name of the owner of the copy or the library that owns it.

The design is laser-engraved onto high-quality rubber, which ensures high-definition detail on our stamp. The relief of approximately 1 mm guarantees clean and clear impressions. We do not use the transparent polymer resins commonly employed by other manufacturers for this purpose.
